Rear Admiral (Ret’d) Peter Brady is currently the Director General of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica and also Vice Chair of the Board of Governors for the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden since 2015.

He is also Co-Vice Chair of the National Council on Ocean and Coastal Zone Management, chairs the National Hydrographic Committee, and is Honorary Consul for the Principality of Monaco. Additionally, he is a sitting member of the Police Service Commission (PSC) of Jamaica and a Committee member of the Major Organized Crime Agency (MOCA).

Previously, Mr. Brady served as the Chief of Defence Staff in the Jamaica Defence Force from 1990 to 1998, where he was the recipient of the Commander of Distinction (Jamaica); Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (UK and Commonwealth); Legion of Merit (Commander USA); Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service (Jamaica, Military).

Given his extensive expertise in maritime affairs, Mr. Brady has served as Jamaica’s Chief Technical Delegate to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), an agency of the United Nations.

As an educator, he was a visiting lecturer at the WMU and has been a serving member of its Board of Governors since 2007 and has also lectured at Dalhousie University. An Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, Mr. Brady is also the 2015 SEATRADE recipient of the IMO-themed Award for Maritime Education and Training. He has also been instrumental in the introduction, training, and implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS Code) in Jamaica.

A graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College in Greenwich London, Mr. Brady holds a graduate degree in Marine Management from Dalhousie University, Canada.

Mr. Brady was appointed as a member of the Police (Civilian Oversight) Authority (PCOA) by the Governor-General on March 1, 2022. His appointment fills the requirement under the PCOA Act that, “two members of the PCOA shall be members of the PSC”.
